A gigantic billboard in space?

Yes. It’s stupid. It’s ridiculous. I’m not serious of course. But hang on a second. Let’s go for a ride. You don’t have to put your seatbelt on. You can keep the door open and hang your foot out. I’ll drive slow and you can bail the moment of your choosing. How much money would it take to buy the naming rights from NASA for the Hartley 2 comet? (I don’t know if that’s how it works, I’m making this up.) Who would have the money and be interested? Could it be The All-State Insurance Comet of Dependability? For instance, if we discovered a comet that swung by at an intersection accessible by our technology at a precise time every few years or so, why not find a way to get that sponsored and raise money for our beleaguered space program? Or if we discovered a different comet about to roar through our cosmic air space at unimaginable speed, why wouldn’t Intel want a piece of that? Or Porsche? One day we’re gonna hear news anchors across the country check in with their science correspondents to get the latest update on the arrival of the FedEx Comet, the fastest ever recorded. I know. It’s crazy. Or is it?

It’s nice to see politicians getting in the Halloween spirit early. I think more politicians should work a little light-hearted banter into their conversations with the media. You know…lighten things up. It’s just so damn serious out there in Arizona.

WordPress to the rescue

So I just posted my first blog post with the iPad using the WordPress app. In many ways, it’s actually easier than posting the usual way, on my laptop through a browser. The iPad app has a great user interface. And because it’s designed specifically for the iPad environment, posting stuff from your iPad isn’t the clunky misery it surly would be if you decided to post through the browser.

This is what happens sometimes when you’re just talkin’ to people at a party.

She’s like an adolescent ocelot, leaping and twisting in the air in pursuit of a dragon fly, not so much interested in catching it as flying with it. I don’t know a lot about figure skating. I watch it with great interest every four years. And that was the best performance I’ve ever seen by far. It was an unmatched fusion of agility, grace, and sequins. And the best part is, unlike many of the others, she was just havin’ fun out there. Watching an artist or an athlete, or in this case, both, take such joy in their craft, nearly always reinforces my opinion that mankind might just make it after all.

BRAINSTORMING AT CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS: Damn. How are we gonna get away with selling a pitifully small bag of M&Ms for 4 dollars? It’s not like we can just trick people by putting a tiny bag of M&Ms in a giant box. Oh. Wait…we can? I got this when I went to see Avatar last night at the IMAX on I-Drive.
